Chapter One :Chapter 1

The entire place was silent, yet, I managed to hear the tickling sound of two metals fighting for dominance, the sound directly came from the person who was sitting on the chair around the table, simply waiting for her stupid friend's arrival, eventually lost her last bit of patience.

I tapped the fork against the spoon imagining the spoon is her and the wild fork which is attacking her is me. I don't like when people forget to keep their promises. It's better to lie If they can't keep a single promise!!

'Agnoo, baby. Please!! Just five minutes. You know what I can't come to your home. I hate your brother.' Yesterday night she texted me to come over. She is afraid of my brother but at the same time wanted to talk to me in person so she finds this coffee shop will be a nice place to meet.

She had a huge crush on him since college but my brother, Aswin, who is known as a miser, is not the type of guy who drools over her silly sister's friend. She created such a scene when I informed her my brother is going to marry his colleague.

She begged me to tell my brother that little Babisha loves you so much that she can't imagine her life with another man. Being the number one idiot I'm, I told my brother everything; my intention was pure.

And when he asked Babisha, she said she didn't say anything like that and I'm, his sister is making a scene for nothing.

Since then he had a bad impression on me but who cares until he lays a finger on me. By the way, he is not the typical brother that everyone wished to have.

"Sorry! Sorry! Sorry!!" The drama Queen took the seat in front of me before shooting me a sheepish smile which I gladly gave her with the opposite poison.

She pretended like she didn't notice the bitterness in my fake smile and said, "Thanks for coming here." And banged her expensive handbag on the table far enough to drag my attention towards her bag.

I eyed her expensive handbag but didn't utter any comments. The silly girl doesn't get the point that I have own more expensive things than her single bag. She was looking at me eagerly as expecting any comments about her new handbag but I simply scrolled through my Facebook until she lost her hope of receiving any compliment about the taste of her selection or how fortune she got from the upcoming marriage.

"This is my marriage invitation. Take a good look at this." With a heavy sigh, she handed me a golden colour card which screamed perfection and showed the groom's wealth.

"I already saw that." I gave her a knowing look that shut her sheepish smile immediately. I have no idea why I'm still looking around her, even after what she did to me. But I don't simply ignore anyone who continuously texting me to know about my well-being even if they don't care a bit. She is one of them and I liked her for that.

When I left my small village for a job, I lost a lot of connections with my school friends. A few of them simply ignored me because they felt jealousy. And the remaining people, I still have no idea why they are ignoring me.

But it's common in our place if anyone has any talents or they use their talents on the correct circumstances which earned them fame and you become popular around the place, consider yourself as a loser because their friend circle would leave them without reason.

It's an immature thing to beg them why you are not talking to me anymore. So, people who think they are mature enough to understand their silly behavior, won't turn their heads towards them.

I was fed up with these kinds of treatments since my first grade. So I don't care who is going to stick with me nor going to leave me. I normally worship people who were actually genuine to me and not gossiping behind my back.

Simply says I don't hold any special place for anyone even if they were my best friend.

"Did you like the guy?" I asked even though her face clearly told me that she loved him very much.

"Of course, I do. He is nice." A shy smile appeared in the corner of her lips that added more beauty to her already bubbly face. Unlike me, she is curvy and bubbly but there is no need for any jealousy. I have owned many things that she doesn't own and I'm happy about that.

"How did it is easy for you to fall for the man at first sight. At least you could reject a few of them just to keep your guts." I shook my head in disappointment.

"Huh! You have the freedom to choose your groom but I don't have..." She bit her nail. "But I'm happy. He is a perfect match for me. I couldn't be happier than ever." Once again a shy smile appeared on her face.

"What about you?" Curiosity took the best of her.

"I rejected him." I shrugged my shoulders. Till now I have rejected five grooms, some have a valid reason, and a few have no reason. Maybe it's because I wanted to enjoy my life a bit more. I'm just 23 and marriage is not a thing I have wanted right now.

"Why?" Her perfect brows furrowed together. "I heard the guy is from a well-settled family." She added immediately.

"So?" I raised my eyebrows. "He may be a rich guy but he is ten years older than me and--- and--- he is bigger than thrice my size." I wouldn't have declared the truth if she is not my good friend.

"Ohh." Her face twisted like she has tasted something bitter. "But what if he is good inside?" For a second I gave her a pointed look before deciding to open my mouth. "Then the girl who is going to marry him will be lucky." I stopped for a while. "But I don't like him. He didn't impress me at first sight." I stated honestly.

Arrange marriage is something we can't expect everything perfect, but at least, I have the freedom to choose my groom. My parents didn't force me over the guy despite several times asking me to reconsider my decision. I had enough and I gave them my firm answer.

"You are lucky, you know." She sighed in defeat. "You have a job, you are standing on your own feet. You are free to talk---" Anxiety is written all over her face.

"You are lucky from birth." Her face dropped. I know what she implied by saying that. Somehow being the firstborn among the three girls made her life hell, but I am the last one among my four siblings and I'm glad for that. My parents gave me everything that my older sisters don’t have.

"Yeah!! It will not happen to anyone that easily." I raised my imaginary collar as a victory. Being stuck up in rural society, somehow, I managed to escape from their civilization. I'm not criticizing my culture, I like my hometown like curd rice, but their tradition got my nerve.

Our ancestors lived these kinds of life because they were uneducated. There, they used to have child marriage where a ten-year-old girl marries a grown-up man, but now everyone knew how to read and write and this generation is very well known as educated people.

But still, some thick-headed people are following old traditions and forcing everyone to do the same as it's the rule to live in society.

Only a few of my friends are still remaining single as many of them got married when they turned eighteen or completed college. And now they have two kids one is going to school, and the other one is attaching with their hip for every now and then. No wonder if there may be a little life inside their womb.

While I'm holding pen, they are holding their children that somehow will happen in the future but right now I have my own life that they don't have tasted a bit.

"When are you leaving?" She asked, slightly changing the subject.

"Two days from today." I smiled as I sensed my two wings are ready to fly in the sky once again. Normally, I don't leave my house when I was staying in my hometown, which I have not interested much, and I don't stay in my hostel during the weekend when I work; My friends usually drag me with them.

"Don't worry I will come to your marriage no matter what," I assured her throwing a genuine smile.

"Okay---" I heaved a heavy sigh. "I have an important call with my Team Lead. It's better to leave." I glanced at my wristwatch before gazing at her.

"I'm jealous of you." She playfully muttered under her breath before we departure our own ways exchanging each other a warm hug.

She is the one who openly told me she was jealous over me but a few king cobras were acting like they really care meanwhile their ugly heart was expecting my downfall.

They feel jealous because I have everything. I have respect, fame and money. Every kid takes my life as a role model that I'm very much proud of. Even some elders, who have a high position in society, are happy to talk to me even though we don't know each other.

I felt blessed.

But---

Did my fortune last?
